Letter to Community
To the Community of El Paso
Keep El Paso Beautiful (KEPB) is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to working with the community of El Paso, for over 26 years, to make our environment healthier, safer and a more beautiful place to live. The mission statement of KEPB is “to empower individuals to take greater responsibility towards enhancing their community environment.” To accomplish our mission KEPB focuses on 3 goals: education, awareness and building community pride. Education is the cornerstone of KEPB. Our primary target audience is our youth. Developing and nurturing our youth into becoming good environmental stewards will have a direct and positive impact on the future of our community.
KEPB acknowledges the special challenges that we have as a border city. Our Education program, Waste in Place, is bilingual and focuses on educating the youth on both sides of the border. Building Awareness is another goal that is achieved through community outreach. Along with education, awareness is a key to changing attitudes and forming good environmental habits. Actions speak louder than words! Showing someone how to be a good environment steward is just as important as telling them about the harmful effects that can occur from illegal dumping, graffiti and improper disposal of solid waste. Last but not least, building Community Pride is paramount in bringing individuals together by a cleaner, healthier and safer city. Your community’s commitment to improving the quality of life in your neighborhood will have a positive impact on the economic opportunities that are available.
The first step to any community’s success in reducing crime rate, reducing health risks, and increasing economic viability is to CLEAN IT UP!
I invite you to join me, the KEPB staff and our Board of Directors on our quest to make El Paso all it could and should be. Without your support as a donor, volunteer, or environmentally responsible citizen, our efforts are futile. By working together, united in community pride, nothing is insurmountable.
I look forward to seeing you at our next event!
Respectfully,
Katherine Gunter Palafox
